One person dies in single-vehicle freeway accident

One person died in a single-vehicle accident on the 215 Freeway in Murrieta on Saturday.

The vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Corolla, was traveling southbound on the freeway just north of Clinton Keith Road in the No. 3 lane at approximately 50 mph, according to a CHP news release. The vehicle steered toward the Clinton Keith Road offramp, but then steered back into the No. 3 lane of traffic.

For reasons which are under investigation, the vehicle veered sharply to the right and slid sideways in a southwesterly direction. The vehicle struck a freeway exit sign and then struck a light pole.

The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire respond to the collision scene, Cal Fire pronounced the driver of the vehicle deceased at the scene. A passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to Inland Valley Hospital. The CHP, Temecula Area is conducting this traffic collision investigation.
