Single-vehicle rollover crash on freeway results in fatality

The driver of a Dodge Ram died Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on the 215 Freeway, authorities said.

The 36-year-old man from Carlsbad, whose name has not been released, was traveling southbound on the freeway just south of McCall Boulevard about 3 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder, where it struck a Cal Trans camera pole.

The Dodge Ram continued in a westerly direction and collided into a large palm tree. The vehicle then overturned near the McCall on-ramp. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead on scene.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the CHP Temecula Area at 951-506-2000.
