A Menifee man was arrested this week on suspicion of the murder of his brother following an investigation that has been ongoing since the incident on Oct. 7, authorities said.
Menifee Police officers responding at 2:55 a.m. that day to the 28200 block of Serenity Falls Way in the Heritage Lake community learned that the victim was at the location with several family members. The incident was originally reported to police as a suicide, but police determined that “significant trauma to the upper body” was not consistent with suicide. A homicide investigation was begun, according to a Menifee PD news release.
Police learned that one of the victim’s brothers had left prior to officers’ arrival. On Oct. 10, detectives made contact with Abisola Afuwape, 30, who was booked into custody because of a previous no bail warrant. Following crime scene analysis, evidence analysis and collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office, Afuwape was arrested on Monday for the murder of his brother, 33-year-old Abiodun Afuwape.
Police are not releasing any details about the manner of death of the victim. The investigation continues, said Captain Dave Gutierrez.
