'Friends' group donates $15,000 to Sun City Library

Friends of the Sun City Library presented a $15,000 check to Sun City Library manager Gail Sorensen on Oct. 11. Sales from the group’s closet-size bookstore, volunteers who work in the bookstore, and the general membership made this possible. The money is dedicated to the Sun City Library and will be used solely for the purchase of books.

In addition, the revenue generated from the sales of the group’s gently used books allow Friends to fund the many programs offered by the Sun City Library. The Board approved an expenditure of over $6,000 for the fourth-quarter programs.

The group needs more gently used books to sell. If you are thinking about having an estate sale, maybe donate the books to a good cause before the sale. Do you have boxes of books stored in your garage or are you just clearing out your bookcase? Friends will be grateful for your donation.

Sun City Library is in the city of Menifee at 26982 Cherry Hills Blvd., and book donations or cash donations can be made during library hours. Friends is a nonprofit organization, and your contributions are tax deductible. Want to become a Friends member? There is a $10 fee to join with annual dues of $10 payable in January. Applications are available in the bookstore.
