The following is a paid political advertisement from Steve Campos for Perris Union High School Board:
The past four years have been challenging for all involved in the world of education. Unfortunately, students have been masked, some staff had to be tested weekly, while others did not have to test at all. A couple of student classes missed out on some of the most important and memorable events of their young lives. They missed out on Friday night football games, extracurricular activities, sports, dances, proms, and in-person graduations. Those students and families can never get those missed opportunities/experiences back.
I am running for PUHSD TA 1 School Board because we need to rally around public education. I have been teaching for 25 years and have been actively involved in the world of education. At work, I have been involved in several committees like LCAP, Safety, and advocating for special populations. I understand how the system operates.
I have worked with and advocated for parents, students, and staff. I have held the administration accountable for the poor decisions that they have made for students, parents, and staff. Now, I want to serve parents, students, and staff from a different perspective and position. I want to advocate for parents, students, and staff by listening to their needs and then finding ways to put those needs into action.
We are at a unique moment in time when we have the opportunity to learn from past mistakes and simply get back to basics. I want to see growth in the Career Technical Education programs for those students who may not see higher education in the near future and want to go out into the workplace with some valuable and marketable employment skills.
This cannot be accomplished without an emphasis on literacy. Getting back to the basics of reading, writing, and mathematical literacy has never been more important. These basic skills will last the students of PUHSD a lifetime and be a springboard to whatever they decide to do in their future.
In short, I want to create new opportunities, maintain the strengths at PUHSD, and find solutions to improve areas of concern.
I would be honored to have your vote of support.
