No one was injured during an officer-involved shooting that took place Friday night when a man answered an apartment door holding a semi-automatic handgun, police said.
Two officers arrived at an apartment complex in the 27700 block of Aspel Road about 9:50 p.m. in response to a call regarding a male banging on an apartment door and walls, shouting profanities and creating a disturbance, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. When officers knocked on the door, a male opened the door holding a handgun in his right hand.
At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was not struck by the gunfire, however, and neither of the officers was injured. The male was taken into custody without further incident and a loaded firearm was recovered at the scene. No other details about the shooting were released.
The male was identified as Robert Arres, 19, of Menifee. He faces four felony charges related to possession of a non-serialized and unregistered firearm, according to jail records. Bail was set at $35,000.
The officer involved in the shooting is a six-year law enforcement veteran and has been with the Menifee Police Department for just over a year. The officer’s name is not being released at this time. Per department policy, the involved officer will be placed on paid administrative leave.
The officer involved shooting is being investigated by the Riverside County Force Investigations Detail, which includes members of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Menifee Police Department Detectives are also assisting with the investigation.
