The rain firefighters had hoped for was definitely a factor Friday as containment of the Fairview Fire in Hemet grew to 40 percent, officials said.
Although the outer band of Tropical Storm Kay brought with it winds up to 70 mph, damage was limited and flames on the rain-soaked ground began to diminish. The revised acreage total as of Saturday morning was 28,307, with 12 structures destroyed and four damaged.
As firefighters began to get more control of the fire, part of the evacuation area was reduced to evacuation warnings. This included a strip of land southwest of Diamond Valley Lake that stretched all the way to the intersection of Winchester Road and Scott Road.
