In the second freeway collision in the same location in less than 24 hours, four people were injured Wednesday in a multiple-vehicle crash just south of Menifee, authorities said.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the 215 Freeway north of Clinton Keith Road, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. A Honda Accord traveling at an estimated 90 mph was in the No. 1 lane and passing a Dodge Ram hauling a boat trailer when the Accord made a sudden turn to the right.
The Accord veered across the No. 2 and 3 lanes and collided into the guardrail in front of the Dodge Ram. The driver of the Dodge took evasive action, but the Accord collided into its right side, causing the driver of the Dodge to lose control of the vehicle. Both vehicles began to spin out of control.
The driver of the Accord was ejected from the driver’s side window and landed in the No. 2 lane, suffering major injuries. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder.
The northbound freeway lanes were closed for more than two hours during the investigation and cleanup. The driver of the Accord was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Dodge and his passengers were transported to Loma Linda Hospital with minor injuries.
The night before, the same stretch of freeway had a massive traffic backup after a trash truck caught fire and dumped its load on the side of the road.
