Elsinore used defense and special teams to break open a close game in the third quarter and go on to defeat Heritage High 35-10 Friday night in the Ivy League opener for both teams.
Heritage (0-6) cut a 14-0 Elsinore lead in half in the second quarter with a touchdown run, and the score remained 14-7 at halftime. The Patriots pulled even closer with a field goal to close the gap to 14-10 in the third quarter, but that was as close as the home team would get.
Elsinore blocked a Heritage punt and Andrew Irvin returned the ball 86 yards for a touchdown and a 21-10 lead. A 55-yard run by Jamari Jones later on gave the Tigers a 28-0 lead. Their final score came on an 18-yard run by Mykai Skinner after an Elsinore interception set up the score.
Elsinore improved its season record to 5-1. Next week, Heritage plays a Thursday game at Temescal Canyon.
