A Menifee woman whose vehicle was struck by a vehicle running a red light on Tuesday died Wednesday, authorities said.
The 41-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, died from injuries suffered in Tuesday’s 3 p.m. collision, which shut down Newport Road at Berea Road for more than three hours. She was heading south on Berea Road and in the process of turning left onto Newport when a Ford SUV traveling westbound collided with her vehicle, according to police.
A police officer on scene performed CPR and firefighters had to extricate the woman from her vehicle. She and the driver of the Ford SUV, a 41-year-old man whose name has not been released, were transported to a hospital. The man's medical condition was originally listed as critical. No update was given on Wednesday.
Menifee Police Captain Dave Gutierrez confirmed the death of the woman on Wednesday but declined to give any more details on the incident. He said the investigation is ongoing and a news release is expected on Thursday.
On behalf of Menifee PD, Gutierrez expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
