Press release from Eastern Municipal Water District:
PERRIS -- As parents wrap up their back-to-school shopping, Eastern Municipal Water District encourages them to add a reusable water bottle to their school supply list.
EMWD has Water Bottle Fill Stations at 114 schools throughout its 558-square mile service area, allowing students to easily and safely refill their reusable bottles with clean and reliable tap water. EMWD’s award-winning Water Bottle Fill Station program has helped save the equivalent of several hundred thousand disposable plastic bottles from entering landfills.
As California continues to face water supply challenges, tap water is also a great way to use less water. It takes at least twice as much water to produce the plastic bottle and the packaging than a disposable water bottle actually holds.
“We want every student to have access to safe, clean drinking water throughout the day at their school,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “Our Water Bottle Fill Station program has helped us achieve that mission. We are incredibly grateful for the partnerships we have with our area schools that have made access to clean and reliable tap water a priority for the students we all serve.”
The Water Bottle Fill Station program is the latest in a long line of programs in which EMWD has partnered with the 11 school districts and private schools in its service area. EMWD is a national leader in water education programs and reaches more than 60,000 students during the academic year through a variety of in-person and virtual programs such as field trips, presentations, contests and more.
