8-year-old boy dies after being hit by vehicle

An 8-year-old boy died of his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in a Menifee residential neighborhood Sunday night, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 7:03 p.m. in the 29000 block of Shadow Hills Street, according to Menifee Police Captain Dave Gutierrez. The victim died despite life-saving measures performed by a witness and first responders. The investigation indicated that the victim was riding a scooter near the front yard of a residence and entered the street when he was struck by the vehicle, which was headed westbound.

The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Alcohol is not considered a factor, Gutierrez said. The names of the victim and the driver were not released.
