School district and city officials attended a ribbon cutting Wednesday to open a new middle school building at Harvest Hill STEAM Academy.
The building – the first two-story building at an MUSD school – “blends subjects of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics,” according to a news release. It includes the Garner Holt Animaker Space, where students work with professionals from Garner Holt Education Through Imagination to study and design animatronics.
The ribbon cutting coincided with a student demonstration of animatronics, known as Spark-E’s, to show off their designs (photo above).
The new building includes 15 classrooms, two project rooms, a new kiln, new locker rooms, and roll-up doors to outdoor patio spaces.
“I am so proud to officially open this learning space to the students,” says MUSD Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root. “The learning that will take place here will inspire students to tackle critical challenges with innovative solutions.”
