Adrian Vento led a strong offensive attack with two home runs and 4 RBIs Thursday as the Paloma Valley High baseball team opened the CIF Division 2 playoffs with a 13-4 victory at Northview High in Covina.
“He’s a great kid who’s had a lot of experience looking to be one of the guys,” coach Jason Berni said. “He had a rough start this season and had to fight his way back into the lineup. But the last six games, he’s been hot.”
Paloma Valley, now 15-12 overall, will play at Rancho Cucamonga Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in a second-round game.
RJ Holmes also had a big game, going 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Stephen Gallegos went 2 for 4 with a home run. Lincoln Klein pitched the first 2.2 innings and Chapman Weber finished up, allowing just one run in 4.1 innings and pitching out of several jams.
Paloma was losing 3-2 after three innings but scored two in the fourth and sixth in the fifth to take charge.
“The boys had a lot of fun,” Berni said. “They played loose and enjoyed playing with unity.”
