A man attending to his disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the freeway was killed when struck by a vehicle this morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 10:13 a.m. on the northbound 215 Freeway north of Nuevo Road, according to a CHP press release. Two male pedestrians were outside a white International Box Truck that was stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights activated. One of the pedestrians walked over to the driver side of the vehicle, near the fog line, to secure the hood latch.

A red Toyota Tacoma drifted onto the right shoulder, colliding with the International and pedestrian. The pedestrian, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead on scene. The other pedestrian and the driver of the Toyota were not injured. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the CHP Accident Investigation Unit at 951-637-8000.
