Sophomore Abbie Barron homered and drove in three runs overall Thursday to lead the Heritage High School softball team to a come-from-behind 4-2 victory at Cerritos in the first round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs.
Kaylee Fraund and Barron had two hits for the Patriots, who improved their season record to 21-4. They will be at home against Western Christian in the second round on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
“Our bats struggled in the beginning, but they came alive in the sixth and seventh innings,” said coach Raul Olivas.
Heritage trailed 2-0 in the top of the sixth when Barron got the Patriots on the scoreboard with a solo home run. She singled home two more runs in a three-run seventh and Heritage held on for the victory. The home run was the first of her high school career.
Tara Skinner was Heritage’s starting pitcher and struck out five. Cassidy Shaw pitched the last four innings and struck out eight.
