A 12-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital in stable condition after he collided with a vehicle while riding his bicycle this afternoon, police said.
The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Normandy Road west of Berea Road, near Spirit Park, according to the Menifee Police Department. The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was riding an electric bicycle and was stopped on the south side of Normandy when a motorist traveling east observed the child and began to slow.
According to police, the child suddenly attempted to cross the road outside of a crosswalk. The bike struck the right front portion of the vehicle and the boy was ejected from the bike. The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Neither DUI nor speed are considered factors in the collision.
“Menifee PD would like to remind parents to require their children to always wear a helmet when biking,” a news release stated. “It’s the law for those under 18. Please also remember to follow the rules of the roadway. Bicycles are subject to the same laws as motor vehicles.”
Normandy Road was closed for a few hours during the investigation.
