Volunteers from churches and other service groups joined individuals volunteering on their own Saturday in the annual Menifee Better Together community clean-up event.
After gathering at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 7 a.m., teams of volunteers were sent out to 18 homes where members of the Sun City senior community needed help with gardening, removal of trash and other exterior work. After completing their work, the volunteers returned to the church for a barbecue.
Homes in need were identified by representatives of the Habitat for Humanity.
At the same time, a different group of volunteers were in Quail Valley, accepting bulk trash items from residents at a drop-off location at Kabian Park. The volunteers, including cadets of the NJROTC battalion at Paloma Valley High School, unloaded large items into huge dumpsters and lighter items into trash trucks provided by Waste Management.
