MILLINGTON, Tenn. – A Menifee native is serving the U.S. Navy at Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Golden Gate, located in San Francisco.
Petty Officer 1st Class Anthony Martinez serves as a personnel specialist. He provides enlisted personnel with information and counseling related to Navy occupations, opportunities for general education and job training, requirements for promotion, and rights and benefits.
“My favorite part about being a personnel specialist is providing excellent customer service and helping sailors that are in need during difficult times,” said Martinez.
Martinez joined the Navy 13 years ago for the opportunities the military provides.
“I joined the Navy in 2009 after spending four years working as a contractor for the United States Marine Corps,” said Martinez. “I wanted to serve my country, travel and pursue further education.”
According to Martinez, the values required to succeed in the military are similar to those found back home in Menifee.
"Growing up in Menifee taught me to have a great work ethic and taking pride in the things that I do," said Martinez. “Those tools have helped me succeed in the Navy and grow personally.”
NTAG Golden Gate recruits the best-qualified men and women for active-duty and reserve enlisted and officer service for America’s Navy to accomplish today’s missions and meet tomorrow’s challenges.
Serving in the Navy means Martinez is part of a team that is taking on new importance in America’s focus on rebuilding military readiness, strengthening alliances and reforming business practices in support of the National Defense Strategy.
“The Navy maintains, trains and equips combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining the freedom of the seas,” said Martinez.
There are many opportunities for sailors to earn recognition in their command, community and careers while serving in the Navy.
"I am most proud of being named Sailor of the Year and being able to see the accomplishments, achievements and advancements of my peers and junior personnel alike," said Martinez. “I am also proud that over the past 13 years I have had the opportunity to serve on two ships (USS Nimitz and USS KIDD) and in two recruiting districts (NTAG Golden Gate and Navy Recruiting District Philadelphia).”
As a member of the U.S. Navy, Martinez and other sailors know they are a part of a service tradition providing unforgettable experiences through leadership development, world affairs and humanitarian assistance. Their efforts will have a lasting effect around the globe and for generations of sailors who will follow.
"The Navy is a family," added Martinez. “It is the culmination of shared values, goals, and experiences. This family stays with us the rest of our lives. It is an honor to serve my country.”
