Press release from Eastern Municipal Water District:
PERRIS -- Eastern Municipal Water District is highlighting the commitment to responsible water use by its recycled water customers during California’s ongoing drought.
This month, EMWD began installing banners in the community at prominent sites that use recycled water, including schools, parks and at agricultural farms throughout its service area. The banners promote recycled water being used and include the phrase “The right water for the right use.” EMWD conducted a similar campaign during California’s previous drought.
“Many of our customers may not know that our farmers, schools and parks have made a proactive commitment to use recycled water for irrigation instead of using drinking water supplies,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “EMWD wants to help educate the public about how these organizations are using water responsibly and for the benefit of our entire community.”
More than 100 banners will be placed throughout the community at sites that use recycled water for irrigation.
EMWD is a national leader in recycled water and in most years uses 100 percent of its available recycled water supplies for beneficial reuse. Approximately two-thirds of that supply is used by agricultural customers.
Recycled water makes up approximately 35 percent of EMWD’s total water supply portfolio.
