Pedestrian dies when hit by truck on Highway 74

A male pedestrian was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a truck along Highway 74 near Taylor Road in Perris, authorities said.

A Ford-250 was driving northbound in the No. 1 lane about 6:40 p.m. when the driver observed the pedestrian walking southbound in the northbound lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver applied his brakes but the right front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who died at the scene.

The Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Peter McCluney, 35, of Perris. The CHP is conducting a collision investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Temecula CHP office at 951-506-2000.
