Two Heritage High School girls wrestlers advanced to the CIF Southern Section Masters individual tournament on Saturday, continuing a historic season.
First-year wrestler Julianna Hifo led the Patriots with a fifth-place finish at 150 pounds in the divisional individual tournament, held at Paloma Valley. Jazmine Harton finished in sixth place at 137 pounds. Cerridwyn Womack ended her season with a tough loss.
"The girls wrestled well," coach Ralphy Nunez said.
The boys team set a new school record by advancing seven wrestlers to day two of CIF divisional competition. Aiden Smiley finished in eighth place and first-year wrestler Luis Nunez and brothers Andy and Adrian Sanchez faced high-ranked opponents to end their season.
"They were disappointed with their outcome, but I had to remind them they were part of history as they left their legacy for the future of the program. I was not expecting the team to do as well as they did this season; the best is yet to come,” coach Oscar Nunez said.
