Dawn Smith named Menifee's Citizen of the Year

Dawn Smith, a 46-year resident of Menifee and longtime community volunteer, was honored by the City Council Wednesday as the Citizen of the Year.

Smith serves as executive director of the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, which serves families in need with food and supplies. She also was a founder of Arts Council Menifee and has been active in the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.

"You truly have a heart for the City of Menifee," council member Lesa Sobek said during the presentation of a proclamation in Smith's honor.

"You symbolize what we're looking for in a Citizen of the Year," said council member Bob Karwin.

In accepting the proclamation, Smith said, "It is an honor. I couldn't have had these opportunities without living in Menifee, which is a growing and thriving community."
