The week in review for local high school sports teams:

Wrestling


Paloma Valley: The Wildcats girls wrestling team placed 10th out of 37 schools in the Norco Tournament on Saturday. Only five wrestlers competed and all placed: Karissa Turnwall (runner-up), Janelle Gomez (third), Julie Noriega (fourth), Melanie Newbold (sixth), and Yi-Ru Hong (consolation champion).

The Wildcats boys wrestling team finished 10th out of over 40 schools at the Mann Classic on Saturday, despite being without three starters. Brandon Brown placed fifth, beating a top 15-ranked state wrestler.

Santa Rosa Academy: The Rangers placed second in the first annual Ranger Pride Dual Tournament. They lost a close match against Elsinore in the finals, 48-36. Top wrestlers included Nelson Sheets (third, 126); Samuel Whitley (first, 132); Caleb Delgado (first, 138); Dryden Strauser (second, 145); Nikolas Vernon (first, 160); Jeremiah Park (third, 170); Manuel Pacheco (third, 182); and Ryan Galvan (third, 195).

Boys basketball

Heritage: The Patriots lost to Cajon 63-25 on Friday but have an impressive 5-2 record. They will be at home against San Jacinto Thursday at 6 p.m.

Paloma Valley: The Wildcats beat Citrus Hill for the second straight time, 69-45, on Tuesday. They lost to Murrieta Mesa on Friday, 74-43. Paloma is 4-5 and will be at home twice this week: Wednesday at 5 p.m. vs. Santa Rosa Academy and Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Sultana.

Santa Rosa Academy: Playing in a tournament, the Rangers beat Vista Del Lago 61-31 on Friday and lost a close one, 52-51, to Orange Vista on Saturday.

Girls basketball

Heritage: The Patriots beat Jurupa Valley 72-31 on Tuesday but lost to Beaumont 80-55 on Thursday, their first loss of the season. Heritage, 6-1 overall, plays at West Valley on Tuesday, at San Jacinto on Thursday, and at home against Yucaipa Friday at 5 p.m.

Paloma Valley: The Wildcats beat Chaparral 64-47 on Tuesday and lost to Vista Murrieta 60-34 on Friday. Paloma Valley is 1-1. They play in the Vista Murrieta Bronco Classic starting on Friday with a 2:30 p.m. game against Murrieta Mesa, then again on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. game against Riverside Poly.

Boys soccer:

Paloma Valley: The Wildcats lost to Murrieta Valley 3-0 on Tuesday but came back to beat West Valley 1-0 on Thursday. Paloma Valley, 1-3 overall, is at home on Tuesday against Tahquitz at 4:45 p.m. and again against Heritage Friday at 5 p.m.

Girls soccer:

Heritage: The Patriots beat Citrus Hill 4-2 on Tuesday. They are 3-3-2 overall.

Paloma Valley:
The Wildcats lost a 1-0 decision to Murrieta Valley on Tuesday. They will play at Tahquitz on Tuesday, at Temecula Valley on Wednesday and at Heritage Friday at 5 p.m.
