Veterans who are residents of the Sun City Gardens retirement community were recognized today with a special program sponsored by The Elizabeth Hospice.
Veteran volunteers presented certificates of appreciation and an American flag lapel pin to 35 veterans, including those who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and peacetime. The day was celebrated with the singing of the national anthem and “God Bless America” and a trumpet playing the armed services hymns.
The Elizabeth Hospice is a "Level 5 Partner," the highest distinction possible, with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veteran Affairs - in the national We Honor Veterans program.
“It is important to recognize the contributions of our veterans every day, not just once a year, and let them know their service to our nation is appreciated and not forgotten," said Sarah McSpadden, President & CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice.
Also helping to sponsor the ceremony were the Temecula Rotary, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and San Diego County Employees Charitable Organization. Volunteer veterans presenting the certificates and pins were Frank Hernandez, USMC (ret); Vicky Aguila, USN (ret); and Stephen Ko, U.S. Army, (ret). Guest speaker was Paul McQuigg, USMC (ret).
