A suspect fleeing police in a stolen vehicle was arrested after the car overturned in front of Audie Murphy Sports Park on Newport Road tonight, police said.
Alejandro Cervantes, 38, of Moreno Valley was spotted by Menifee Police in a stolen SUV near Goetz Road and Manganese Road about 5:22 p.m., said Menifee PD Captain Chris Karrer. The suspect fled west on Newport Road, then turned around and headed east. When he got stuck behind traffic near Audie Murphy Sports Park, the suspect drove up on the sidewalk, hit some bushes and soft dirt, and flipped the vehicle as he tried to come off the curb.
The suspect exited the overturned vehicle and started to run, but officers chased him down and arrested him without incident.
Cervantes was found to have a felony parole warrant for auto theft. He was charged with receiving stolen property, evading police, and resisting arrest. He is already scheduled for a March 2022 court date on drug charges, according to jail records.
