Heritage wins 49-7, secures CIF playoff berth

Quarterback Hayden Lara ran for two touchdowns and passed to Zach Butler for another TD Friday night to lead the Heritage High football team to a 49-7 victory over host Notre Dame of Riverside.

The Patriots' running game dominated against the home team. Jaylen Tanniehill and Jason Chupany each ran for two touchdowns. The defense also played a great game, led by linebacker Kyle Basham.

Heritage finished the regular season in a three-way tie with Elsinore and Temescal Canyon for the Ivy League championship. Elsinore was designated the No. 1 team for the CIF playoffs. Heritage won a coin flip with Temescal Canyon and will be designated the No. 2 team when the playoff brackets are announced on Sunday.

The Patriots are 3-1 in league play and 5-5 overall.
