Heritage plays at St. Pius X/St. Matthias in football playoffs

The Heritage High Patriots will play at St. Pius X/St. Matthias of Downey in a 7 p.m. first-round CIF-SS football playoff game Friday night.

The Patriots learned their fate when the playoff brackets were announced today. Heritage was placed in Division 7. The team finished in a three-way tie for the Ivy League title with Elsinore and Temescal Canyon, which made the playoffs in another division.

Heritage takes a 5-5 overall record into the playoffs. The Patriots beat Notre Dame 49-7 on Friday.

St. Pius X/St. Matthias takes an 8-2 record into the playoffs. The Warriors finished second in the Camino Real League.

In Division 14, Santa Rosa Academy will play at Alhambra Friday at 7 p.m. in a first-round game. The Rangers are 4-4 overall and Alhambra is 4-6.

Paloma Valley finished third in the Sunbelt League but did not make the playoffs. The Wildcats won two games in league but lost the other seven games this season.
