Support for the football program is reaching new heights as the Santa Rosa Academy Rangers take a 3-1 record into their Homecoming game Saturday night.
In the first night game ever played at the SRA campus field, the Rangers will play host to Capistrano Valley Christian at 7 p.m. Temporary lights are being brought in for the game, with plans for permanent lighting next season already approved.
The Rangers are 2-0 in South Valley League play and coming off a 42-14 victory over Temecula Prep last week in their first game on their own field. Prior to this season, SRA used the Heritage High field for home games.
Coach Perry Jones said that having both a successful season and a campus field means a lot to the players and the student body in general.
“We’ve been kind of transient,” Jones said about the past. “There’s always been a disconnect between the football games and our school. Heritage has been a traditional powerhouse, so we knew we had no ownership of that field when playing there. Having this game at home and at night does increase the level of excitement.”
Quarterback Adam Pinard had a big game last weekend, passing for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Rangers also got a 51-yard touchdown run by Jeremiah Park and a TD on an interception return. SRA compiled 317 yards total offense.
The week prior to that game, the Rangers opened league play with a 53-7 victory over St. Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School of Temecula. This weekend’s game is against a Capistrano Valley Christian team that is 5-1, playing a freelance schedule.
