The Heritage High School football team has added a game to its schedule for next Friday in an attempt to improve its overall record to 2-3 before playing at rival Paloma Valley Oct. 1 in the annual Menifee Bowl.
Heritage was originally scheduled to have a bye week next week, but the Patriots lost a game off their schedule when a Sept. 3 game at Chaparral was cancelled because of COVID-19 cases on the Chaparral team. To pick up a 10th game, Heritage will play at San Pedro High next weekend.
The Patriots lost a 28-7 decision at Roosevelt High in Eastvale Friday night, but coach Andre Smith saw continued signs of progress in the team’s growth.
“Our defense played great,” Smith said. “It’s simple; we have to stop turning the ball over on offense. We gave up a fumbled snap scoop and score and a punt return for a touchdown.
“We’re playing hard and the kids are working their butts off. I love my kids. We just have to keep battling and we have to start executing better. We haven’t put a complete game together yet. We’ll get back to work on Monday.”
