Menifee Police officers today arrested a man accused of threatening another man with a firearm – then arrested the alleged victim of the crime as well, authorities said.
The incident took place about 2 p.m. in the 29000 block of Camino Crystal, according to a report from the Menifee Police Department. The reporting party said that the other man, identified as 37-year-old Jesse Stewart, pointed a gun at him during an argument and threatened to shoot him. Arriving officers determined the men knew each other.
Meanwhile, officers observed body armor, loaded rifle magazines, and loaded handgun magazines near the vehicle of the victim, according to the police report. It was determined that the victim had brought the body armor and magazines to the residence. The victim was found to be a convicted felon and prohibited from being in possession of body armor and ammunition.
Meanwhile, a search of the residence revealed three firearms, including one that was not registered.
Stewart was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and other felony and misdemeanor charges. He is being held at Southwest Detention Center with bail set at $50,000 with a court date on Thursday, according to jail records.
The other man was arrested for being a felon in possession of ammunition and body armor. He was not identified because it is department policy not to release the names of victims of crime, said Captain Dave Gutierrez.
