A Lake Elsinore man who refused to comply with Menifee Police Department officers after threatening to "kill people" faces a felony charge of resisting arrest and three misdemeanor charges.
Officers responded at 8:30 p.m. Monday to a parking lot in the commercial center on the northeast corner of Newport Road and Menifee Road regarding a male causing a disturbance, according to Captain Dave Gutierrez. The caller said the suspect was talking about killing people, Gutierrez said.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Adam Paquette, was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when police arrived. He was uncooperative and challenged the officers to a fight upon exiting the vehicle. After taking a fighting stance and lunging toward officers, a taser was deployed, but it was not effective, according to Gutierrez.
Paquette continued to display aggressive behavior and was taken into custody with the help of a police K9. After being medically treated, Paquette was booked into the Southwest Detention Center. No officers were injured.
In addition to the felony charge, Paquette faces misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of a police officer, and attempting harm to a police dog. He will be in court on Thursday to answer the charges, according to jail records.
