Family members of a Menifee woman missing for a week continue to hold out hope she will be found, but several days of organized searches and public pleas for help have not turned up any leads, the woman's granddaughter told Menifee 24/7 today.
Karen Winteringham, 66, has not been seen since Aug. 4, said Maki A. Smith, who continues to share a flier listing her grandmother's description. Winteringham was last seen wearing a yellow shirt, yellow floral pants, and glasses. She suffers from dementia, high blood pressure, and heart complications, Smith said.
A Silver Alert was issued last week and residents spent several days searching for Winteringham in local neighborhoods, open fields and hilly areas. A local TV station picked up the story earlier this week. Still, there have been no leads in the case.
"People are still searching," Smith said today. "We’ve checked from Perris, Hemet, Menifee, Moreno Valley ... every field, it seems.
"She walked out while her husband (my grandpa) was in the shower. She has walked out before, but we almost always are there to get her back in, or even the police have brought her right back home. Never like this."
According to Smith, the missing woman is known to walk to the Cherry Hills Plaza and surrounding areas in the Sun City community. Anyone who has seen her or has information about this case is asked to call the Menifee Police Department at 951-723-1500 or dispatch at 951-677-4964. Smith also asks that you message Maki A. Smith or Andrea Simpson on Facebook.
"Thank you everyone for your prayers and support and efforts," Simpson wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. "Especially to those who came out with us for the last four days searching for Karen. Unfortunately, still no results, but we are keeping hope alive. We believe she is still out there and we are trying to figure out away to make the message spread."
