A Menifee woman faces a murder charge related to the death in April of a woman she is accused of providing with fentanyl, authorities said.
Stephanie Calo, 28, was taken into custody without incident on Friday at Newport Road and Antelope Road, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release and jail records. Calo was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility with bail set at $1 million. She has a Sept. 1 court date to answer a felony charge of second-degree murder.
The arrest came as the result of an investigation into the April 21 incident, in which Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of an unresponsive female in a vehicle in the 300 block of Railroad Canyon Road in Lake Elsinore. It was determined that Jayde Madden, 28, of Murrieta was deceased.
An investigation indicated that Madden was the victim of a homicide due to a fentanyl overdose. Calo was later identified as a suspect responsible for selling the fentanyl that killed Madden.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Sheriff’s Department Investigator Cook at 951-955-1700.
