So far, so good for the Liberty High School football team in its first season.
The Bison, playing another JV level game, defeated Etiwanda 26-18 Thursday afternoon on the road, improving their record to 2-0. Sophomore running back Eddie Smith scored two touchdowns, including the final score of the game. Liberty, which fell behind 7-0 before battling Etiwanda closely the rest of the game, led by just one point before the final touchdown drive.
Coach Kraig Broach praised the play of Smith and mentioned the strong play on the offensive line of Jacob Ramirez and Elijah Connor.
The Bison have added a game to their schedule for next week and will play the Vista Del Lago JV team Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Liberty’s first home game in the school’s new stadium.
In other football action Thursday, Santa Rosa Academy lost a 45-0 decision at Valley Christian of Cerritos. The Rangers were coming off a 36-26 victory over Desert Christian Academy in their Aug. 20 season opener.
Tonight, Heritage (1-0) will be at home again to play Vista Murrieta (0-1), while Paloma Valley (0-1) travels to Murrieta Valley (0-0). Both games begin at 7 p.m.
