Update at noon Monday from Cal Fire via Twitter: The Chaparral Fire is now at 1,427 acres and 13 percent contained. Acreage decreased slightly due to improved mapping. All Evacuation ORDERS and WARNINGS remain in place.
Evacuation orders remain in place for some areas and firefighters have announced only 10 percent containment of the Chaparral Fire, which has covered more than 1,400 acres in the hills west of Murrieta.
The fire was reported at 12:38 p.m. Saturday at Tenaja Road and Cleveland Forest Road near the La Cresta community. It was originally reported at 20-25 acres but grew rapidly during the day. By 3:15 p.m., evacuation orders were given for areas north of Tenaja Truck Trail, south of Calle Cielo, east of Calle Collado and West of Calle Be Bietol. An evacuation center was opened at Murrieta Valley High School.
As of Sunday morning, one firefighter had received minor injuries and two structures were destroyed.
