News release from Eastern Municipal Water District:

PERRIS -- Eastern Municipal Water District is proud to celebrate National Water Quality Month throughout August by continuing our longstanding commitment to delivering safe and reliable water supplies to the communities we serve.

EMWD promotes water quality through state-of-the-art treatment processes and extensive water quality testing to ensure our customers are confident in the water supply delivered to homes, businesses and recreational facilities throughout our 555-square mile service area.

Each year, EMWD conducts more than 45,000 water quality tests at its state-certified laboratory. EMWD tests for 155 contaminants and impurities and collects more than 7,500 samples for testing each year. EMWD continually meets and surpasses all water quality standards set forth by the State Water Resources Control Board and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

National Water Quality Month was founded by the EPA in 2005 and backed by the United Nations to highlight the importance of safe, clean and accessible drinking water.

As California continues to face drought conditions, the need for accessible and safe drinking water sources continues to take on added importance. EMWD is proactively prepared for the drought because it has invested in a diverse water supply portfolio that meets all state and federal drinking water quality standards. Those customer investments also include water use efficiency programs that help maximize available resources.

EMWD’s modernized wastewater collection system and treatment processes also protect public health and drinking water quality by helping to prevent runoff into groundwater supplies.

“EMWD is proud to celebrate water quality awareness month the best way we know how: By continuing to deliver the safe and high-quality water supply that our customers have come to expect from us,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “We hope our customers can celebrate this month with us by learning more about water quality and how it protects public health.”

Customers may learn more about their water quality by viewing EMWD’s annual Consumer Confidence Report at www.emwd.org/ccr.
