The Coroner's Office today released the identity of the person who died in a multiple-vehicle collision on the 215 Freeway in Menifee Thursday night.
Jazmine Gomez, 29, of Romoland was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred about 8:55 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway, about a half-mile south of the McCall Boulevard off-ramp, authorities said. According to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Fire Department, approximately five vehicles were involved. The freeway was shut down at Newport Road for several hours and northbound traffic was routed off the freeway at that point.
Several vehicles that had just passed under the Newport Road bridge at the time of the shutdown were stuck on the freeway until they were allowed to turn around and exit via the Newport Road on-ramp about three hours later, motorists involved posted on social media.
One person was transported with moderate injuries and another victim suffered minor injuries. The CHP is handling the investigation and no other details are available at this time.
