Police investigating murder-suicide of couple in their 70s

Menifee Police responding to a call from a residence in the Sun City community today discovered a male and female in their 70s who apparently were involved in a murder-suicide.

The 7:10 a.m. call for service reported an assault with a deadly weapon in the 27000 block of Terrytown Road, near Bradley Road and Potomac Drive, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. The caller requested medical aid after admitting he had shot his wife. After a few moments of silence, the dispatcher heard a gunshot just as officers were arriving on scene.

Officers entered the residence to check for injured victims. They located a female with two gunshot wounds to her upper body and a male with a single gunshot to his upper body. Medical personnel arrived and rendered aid to both individuals. The female was pronounced dead at the scene. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he died soon thereafter.

Menifee PD detectives and Crime Scene investigators responded to assume the investigation. Preliminary information indicated the male shot the female for an unknown reason and then shot himself prior to police entering the residence. Investigators determined it was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community. The identity of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
