Multiple-vehicle freeway crash results in fatality, injuries

One person died and two others suffered injuries Thursday night in a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles on the northbound 215 Freeway south of the McCall Boulevard off-ramp, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 8:55 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Approximately five vehicles were involved and all freeway lanes were blocked. By 9:19 p.m., northbound traffic was directed off the freeway at Newport Road and the freeway was closed at that point.

The Riverside County Fire Department reported that one victim died at the scene. Another person was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries and a third victim suffered minor injuries.

Northbound lanes of the freeway between Newport Road and McCall Boulevard remained closed at 10:15 p.m. No other details were immediately available.
