News release from Eastern Municipal Water District:
PERRIS -- Eastern Municipal Water District is proud to announce the winner of its inaugural video contest for high school students that highlights where EMWD’s water supplies originate from and what happens after they use it.
Robyn Romo, a junior at Canyon Springs High School in the Moreno Valley Unified School District, was selected the winner of the contest, which was open to students within EMWD’s 555-square mile service area in western Riverside County. The video could be up to three minutes and be focused on an audience of high school students.
Students researched and created the video focusing on where EMWD’s water supplies come from, including local groundwater and water imported from The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California through the State Water Project and Colorado River Aqueduct systems.
The videos also highlighted where water goes after it goes down the drain. EMWD also provides wastewater services and is a national leader in recycled water, which accounts for more than one-third of its water supply portfolio.
EMWD’s award-winning education program reaches out to more than 60,000 students in normal years to teach them about water issues through a variety of grade-appropriate programs, including classroom presentations, field trips, and various contests.
The winning video can be viewed here.
