The format was scaled back from previous years because of COVID-19 restrictions, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of volunteers who participated in the annual Menifee Better Together cleanup campaign on Saturday.
Returning after a one-year absence because of the pandemic, this year’s event included volunteers performing cleanup and maintenance at eight homes of seniors in the Sun City community. In addition, volunteers performed cleanup alongside five right-of-way areas of Newport Road.
Meanwhile, volunteers accepted bulky waste items brought by residents to Kabian Park in Quail Valley and Heritage High School in the Romoland community. The drop-off operations were so popular, both sites were full by 11:15 a.m.
At Kabian Park, volunteers filled four front-loader trash trucks, plus four 40-yard roll-off bins and an e-waste bin. More than 100 residents were served at that location. At Heritage High School, all five 40-yard bins were filled and more than 50 loads were dropped off.
Menifee City Council member Matt Liesemeyer, whose District 2 includes Quail Valley, praised the work of all involved.
“I am really happy to see this event in action again after having to take 2020 off due to COVID-19,” Liesemeyer said. “It’s such a great event for our whole community and having a way to come together safely is more important than ever. It was great to see so many smiling faces.”
Overall, more than 150 volunteers participated in the event.
