Brandon Jones, a teacher and coach in his third year at Heritage High School, will officially take over the duties of athletic director on July 1.
Jones is training in that position under Scott Moore, who will transfer to Liberty High School on July 1 to become that school's first athletic director. Jones will in charge of the athletic program at Pinacate Middle School in Perris before transferring to Heritage in 2018.
"It's always been my ambition to become an athletic director," said Jones, who currently teaches algebra and geometry at the school. "I know I'm coming in at a crazy time [during the pandemic]. What a way to learn. But the end of this school has been a blessing in disguise, seeing so many kids fulfill their dreams."
Jones worked with Moore in the hiring of a new head football coach. Andre Smith, an assistant coach at Murrieta Valley High, was announced as the new head coach last week.
Jones also noted the success of several sports this spring. Learning to schedule field and gym time has been a challenge with nearly all the sports competing at once to get seasons in before the end of this pandemic-plagued school year.
