A suspect who fired shots from a residence at Sheriff's deputies attempting to serve an arrest warrant was found dead inside the home Sunday in Perris, authorities said.
Deputies arrived at a residence in the 100 block of Bond Drive, near San Jacinto Avenue, at 9:13 a.m., according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Deputies were fired upon in what resulted in an officer-involved shooting. An officer requested help from other law enforcement agencies and several vehicles responded, including multiple armored rescue vehicles.
The armored vehicles were used to rescue multiple deputies who were pinned down on the property during the shooting. One deputy received a non-life threatening injury and was transported for treatment. A perimeter was established around the area and surrounding homes were evacuated.
After several unsuccessful attempts to get the suspect to exit the home, the Hazardous Device Team sent in a robot, which located the adult male deceased from a gunshot wound. A handgun was located at the scene.
No other deputies were injured during the incident. There are no outstanding suspects and no threat to the public, according to the news release. The suspect's identity has not been released.
Deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave per department policy. The investigation will be led by an investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney's Ofice. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact District Attorney Investigator Quilantan at 951-955-5400 or Investigator Dickey at 951-955-2777.
