Spectators at home sports events for Paloma Valley and Heritage high schools this spring must wear masks and attendance will be limited to two spectators per athlete – immediate family members only.
This announcement was made today by the Perris Union High School District as plans continue for the return of most sports by early April. The limited number of spectators will be subject to COVID-19 restrictions, including social distancing. Family members can’t sit with anyone else, can’t arrive more than 10 minutes before the start of the contest, and must leave immediately after. Food will not be allowed.
The announcement, posted on the Paloma Valley Athletics Facebook page, states that these spectator rules may apply only to home games of schools in the Perris Union High School District, including Heritage High. Each school district is responsible for setting its own rules for spectators.
To service those who would like to watch relatives or friends but aren’t allowed to attend, the district will offer live streams of home games through the NFHS subscription internet service.
“Athletes will be communicated with by their coach on how each athlete's family will be sold or get tickets based on the sport,” the district announcement states.
Athletic directors Ryan Sharp of Paloma Valley and Scott Moore of Heritage are working overtime to solidify schedules for every sport. For the first time, virtually all Wildcat and Patriot teams will be competing at the same time of year. Schedule adjustments are still being made because of challenges in getting officials to work all the games, Sharp said. More information will be released soon.
