A Murrieta man and a Canyon Lake man face murder charges after their arrests connected to the death of a 16-year-old female due to a suspected fentanyl overdose.
The incident began when Sheriff’s deputies responded at 7:04 p.m. Wednesday to the report of an overdose at a residence in the 35000 block of Sugar Maple Street in French Valley, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. They located an adult male and female juvenile who were unresponsive, with overdoses of fentanyl suspected.
Both subjects were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The male was revived, but the female was pronounced dead at the hospital. An investigation developed information that the case was possibly a homicide, authorities said. The name of the deceased has not been released.
On Saturday, deputies also arrested Jeremiah David Carlton, 19, of Canyon Lake in connection with the case. He also faces a murder charge and has a Wednesday court date in Murrieta. He is being held without bail at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Central Homicide Investigator Darryl Robertson at 951-955-1094 or 951-955-2777.
