Suspect who fled traffic stop faces felony charges

A San Marcos man who attempted to flee from Menifee Police during a traffic stop Thursday faces four felony charges and additional misdemeanor charges for related crimes.

Jerry Nassar, 36, failed to yield when an officer attempted to stop his Dodge truck for a vehicle code violation near Watson Road and Antelope Road at 3 a.m. Thursday, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. After a short pursuit, the truck crashed into a ditch.

Nassar fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody. He was arrested and booked into Southwest Detention Center on charges of felony evasion, possession of burglary tools, forgery by altering vehicle registration, a vehicle code violation and misdemeanor drug charges.

Nassar is being held with bail set at $100,000, according to jail records. He has a court date in Murrieta on Monday.
