Two longtime members of the Menifee Senior Softball League were recognized on Monday when Fields 1 and 3 at Wheatfield Park were named in their honor.
Field 1 was named for Ed Hustead, who has served as commissioner of the league for the last 27 years. He started playing in the league 30 years ago. A military veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War, Hustead was presented with a proclamation from the City of Menifee during Monday's event. Although his playing days recently ended, Hustead continues to attend games and serve as commissioner.
Ed and his wife Linda attended Monday's ceremony.
Field 3 was named for the late Rex Finley, a softball Hall of Famer who was married to his wife Irene for 76 years. Irene passed away in 2018 and Rex died earlier this year.
Rex Finley won 13 world championships, including 12 while playing for the San Diego Silverhawks. That team produced nine Senior Softball Hall of Fame members; Rex was inducted in 2010.
Rex played in the Menifee Senior Softball League until he was 94. After that, he continued to attend games. Many of his family members were in attendance at Monday's ceremony.
