Here are all the comments left on our reader poll site as of 2 p.m. Monday regarding Measure M, which seeks to repeal the 1 percent sales tax to help fund public safety. Was this tax money used to buy the military tanker for the police dept?

It’s minor and given the economic effects of the pandemic on the State's budget there is a high probability the State will take our City's gas tax money again and leave us in financial straits.

I think it is important we keep it.

DD was to supplement lost revenue from vehicle registrations. It is no longer the case and should be removed. Typical politicians banter about police and fire protection. ie: see prop 6. Reworded to mislead the voters. Why is that not criminal? We have our own PD. Whoopee!! Nightly I still racing and see a new set rubber marks where donuts have been performed in intersections. I have seen 2 MPD vehicles since it’s inception. And none on my street. At least. RCSD has a presence.

We need the income because of State cuts.

LET'S SEE EXACTLY WHERE A BIASED COUNCIL SEES THE RECEIPT OF TAXES GOING! DID THE PUBLIC HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE ENORMOUS COST OF A POLICE FORCE, ENHANCED FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND ALL THE ADJOINING PERSONNEL NEEDS ASSOCIATED? AN INFORMED CONSTITUENCY WOULD BE A HAPPIER BODY!! SEEMS AS GROWTH TAKES PLACE, THE DELIBERATING BODIES OF MENIFEE.SUN CITY GOVT. BECOMES MORE SECLUDED FROM ITS CONSTITUENCY!!

The City needs to tighten their belt as we all have.

Stop stop stop spending. To many city cars siting at City Hall. Budget our tax dollars you already have.

Is one cent and every other city has it so those acting like they don’t want to pay out shady are but to neighboring cities.

Why would you Repeal MORE Police/Fire?

Taxes in California are high enough as it is, let’s vote to reduce taxes so more of our money can be used to support local businesses, not governments.

Menifee is one of the fastest growing cities in California. We need the tax to allow the infrastructure to keep up with the growth.

We need to keep Menifee City safe and not turn into the dangerous cities throughout the country and in California. Crimes of theft, destruction of property, murder, mayhem; accelerated by defunding police tactics.

We need this now more than ever.

Keeping Measure DD in place is critical for Menifee.

At this point in time, I think the tax is doing more good than not.

People are struggling enough after losing jobs from Covid without paying out any more money than they have to, The city needs to figure out how to budget better!

We need a strong police force in our city!!!!

Need clearly written information.

We should keep it. Other cities that are pleasant and nice to live in have set this precedent. It's useful and any candidate for mayor that looks to repeal this tax should do his homework.

Keep your taxes local.

For 1% sales tax but stays here in Menifee the benefits outweigh trying to save one penny per dollar by a ridiculous margin. I don't want to see any cuts to any departments in this city. Repealing measure DD would be a massive mistake and very shortsighted.

We need this tax!!

Federal funding will become limited due to the quarantine and many programs as well as infrastructure will cut if we remove this tax. Especially with a new police department just opening, one would assume that the people of Menifee would try to keep this tax to be able to fund the police department that they so desperately asked for. This tax is what eventually helped bring that department as well as hell out first responders in this area and help with so much rebuilding in the community.

We need Measure DD to be safe !!!!!!

This will continue to provide Menifee with a valued financial resource for all citizens.

I did not vote for the tax however now that I’ve seen the improvements to the community and having our own police department I will not vote to repeal it!

This is tantamount to defending essentials. If it passes the quality of life in Menifee , one of the fastest growing cities in CA will significantly decrease.

Measure M gives back nearly one million dollars a month to the people who shop in Menifee... There will be no cuts to police or fire, I guarantee it, the City is fear-mongering, don't believe the scare tactics... The City runs a surplus and has a large reserve fund... YES on M.....

This tax is important to the safety of our city!

Got on the ballot by liars lying to the public who signed the petition and it needs to be stopped.

Have not seen enough information to make an informed decision at this time.

Measure DD was presented due to the state withholding VLF funds. Those funds were later given back to the city. Measure DD has no sunset date, and should be repealed. I am not against a sales tax initiative, however it should have a specific time period. The city should work harder to entice businesses to yield greater revenue sources.

How else is the City to pay for our amazing Police Department?

Police department is too top heavy.

Bad time for any raises in anything.

My opinion is, you will need to make it very clear to Menifee residents, that this tax is already in place and it's not an additional new tax.

Even if funds from this tax are not all going to what they claim to, there is no way to know and the city will not ever tell. If we vote it away we can be sure to see changes and not for the good. The city is very safe and clean, not perfect, but better off than most. Let's keep it that way!
