A man suspected of DUI was taken into custody by Riverside Sheriff's Deputies in Menifee today after leading police on a 14-mile chase from San Jacinto to Menifee, authorities said.
The Sheriff's Department responded at 12:11 p.m. to the Fire Department's request for assistance regarding a "man down" -- meaning a male incapacitated for some reason. According to Sheriff's Corporal Lionel Murphy, deputies found a man unresponsive in a vehicle on Black Cherry Street just west of Sanderson Avenue in San Jacinto.
When deputies attempted to wake up the individual, he fled in his vehicle after showing signs of intoxication, Murphy said. Sheriff's Department vehicles gave chase as the suspect violated several traffic laws in driving west through Menifee on Newport Road, then north to where he was taken into custody without incident on Evans Road and McLaughlin Road.
